Today's walk

Today's walk was something a bit different as it involved walking through the centre of Newquay town.  Now I don't usually like walking where there are looks of other people, generally I enjoy my own space.  I sort of wish I'd stuck to my normal plans as there were a lot of people around today, especially men in horrible shorts that are obviously on holiday (yuk *tries to remove image from mind*).

However, I did enjoy my walk in general and I took a few photos for your benefit.  They are from the mid-point onwards as I really didn't want photos of those men in those shorts!

World famous Fistral Beach with lots of surfers

The Gannel Estuary

As you can see, the weather was nice but we haven't had the sun that the rest of the UK seem to have had today.  Though I was definitely warm enough walking.

So, today's walk was 7.37 miles which I managed in 2 hours 10 minutes, still too fast really for training for Peru.

My exercise mileage for May now stands at 20.7 miles mountain biking, 12.7 miles hiking (with full backpack), 19.5 miles running, and 33.3 miles walking which equals 86.1 miles this month.

I wonder if I can get to 100 miles by the end of May?

A great day for mind, body and soul

Today has been a good day...

...for my mind, body and soul.

It started with a lovely breakfast of scrambled eggs on toast, thanks to this little lady

She didn't cook, just provided the eggs
Then I worked out (yes, I actually did it!) to Davina's Ultimate Target DVD I decided that I needed a bit of toning work and so I did the following sections: Ultimate Abs, Summer Shoulders, Bikini Bum and Bingo Wings as well as the warm-up and full cool down and stretch.
I really enjoyed the workout and I'm so glad I'm getting back into the swing of it.

I then sat and gave my brain a good workout with my annual cashflow forecasting for my accountancy business and my personal finances (I am an accountant, what more would you expect?).

I ate an enjoyable lunch with my son.

This afternoon I considered going for that long walk I talked about but to be honest, the weather was pretty shocking and if I didn't *need* to go out then I didn't think I should (perhaps more excuses but I did work out!).
So instead I baked, I made Five-minute Carrot Cake and also Creamy Dreamy Frosting and was really pleased with how they turned out.

I also created a pasta dish for tea, wholewheat penne pasta with a sauce i kind of made up as I went along (this is normally quite dangerous for me as I'm not good at it).  The sauce consisted of roasted courgette and tomatoes,
boiled carrots, some chutney, marmite and salt and pepper that I whizzed up in the food processor until lumpy but smooth (anyone know the technical term for that?).  My son and I also had broccoli on the side and I topped the pasta with a small amount of soft goats cheese - YUM!

After our meal, my husband and I went for a short walk, it was only about 10 minutes but it was really refreshing (as it's cold out there) and gave us some time to talk about our day.

This evening I plan on sitting and reading whilst my husband practices his acoustic guitar - a perfect end to the day.

I've been a bit slack...

Ok, I admit it, for the last few weeks, since we came back from our week in the Peak District, I've been a bit slack....exercise wise.

I've had a bit of a bad back for the last week and I've been using this as a bit of an excuse as well...I should know better!

So, this week I've started to "do" something again, it's only been a little bit but it's back on the right path (excuse the pun).  I've been walking every day for at least 10 minutes....I know, I know....it's rubbish but it's better than nothing.

Tonight I actually put my walking boots back on and went for a bit of a longer walk and tomorrow I promise to do much better and go on a decent walk, for at least an hour.

I'll let you know how I get on.

The Peak District - Part One

On Monday, we went on a short walk, about 5 miles, though there were a few fairly steep hills.

Here are some of the photos from the walk which started in a small village called Combs and went up the hillside towards Chapel-en-le-Frith, then back down a hill and through some farms (one very boggy one called Marsh Farm) and then around the edge the reservoir and back to Combs.

Although the weather was beautiful and the views stunning, these photos don't really show them off properly.
